What a good week! We have got the main part of the new roof on the straw bale workshop and we have finally just received planning permission approval to extend the workshop and upgrade the wind turbine.
This means we can really start to make progress. The original workshop will provide not only a venue for practical courses but will enable us to make products for sale from the natural materials produced from the management of the site. The new extension planned for the workshop was started on a self-build course run by Duncan Roberts in June this year. The frames that were made on the course can now be erected in their correct place and this will potentially pave the way for a second self-build course next year. We hope to rent this workshop space out once completed.
Perhaps even more exciting though, is getting planning permission for an upgraded wind turbine. This will allow the site to remain carbon neutral even with additional new buildings as well as provide some background heating for the classroom, making this a much more comfortable space to use. Any excess electricity will be exported into the grid. We love it when a plan finally comes together!
